Although the toothpaste is more expensive than I would like, the stuff really works and the tube lasts quite a while if you use a small amount. FWIW I use a pea sized dot twice a day and I get about 3 months from a tube which is longer than any tube of Sensodyne. So the initial cost is high, but overall I think it's quite reasonable, so I'm happy to spend it. I was tired of spending extra money importing Sensodyne (for those who don't know, the Sensodyne version has NovaMin much better at treating sensitivity than the US version) for results I thought they would little better than any random toothpaste I could buy at the grocery store. I started googling for alternatives and after discarding all the options that were clearly pointless (no fluoride, no desensitizers, basically junk in a tube for people afraid of chemicals) this was one of them, who showed up. I did a little research, looked at the reviews and decided I wanted to try this. mHAP has research articles showing its effectiveness in treating sensitivity (equal to or better than NovaMin in the non-US version of Sensodyne), and that was enough for me to at least try. After about a week or two, I definitely noticed a noticeable improvement in the pain I felt when enjoying ice cream or drinking a really cold drink. A year and a half has passed and my teeth are almost like new! The sensitivity hasn't gone away and I doubt it will ever go away, but it's way better than ever. I still have to avoid biting an ice cream cone with my front teeth, but there's no longer that weird mouth dance with cold foods, so they temporarily stop hurting when I eat them. When do I run in winter? My teeth don't fall out in the cold wind, which is amazing. Not only does this toothpaste make my teeth look more normal, it also makes them a lot cleaner. I have a few rough spots on some of my back teeth after removing my braces which have not been smoothed out as well as my front teeth and after some use they are a bit smoother. The same goes for plaque build-up as my next professional cleaning approaches. I have retainers on my bottom teeth and anyone who has one knows how bad plaque and tartar can be with those suction cups. Currently? I get next to nothing, and if I brush my teeth every six months, all my dentist needs to do is pull out a small cleaning tool to get tiny gaps at the very top of my teeth where his waterbrush can't fully explode. the plate was removed. What used to take a good 10 minutes for 6 teeth now takes 3 max. My dentist has always been amazed at how clean my teeth used to be, but now I always hear that he doesn't want his other patients with unbonded retainers to be as easy are like me. Finally, this material is surprisingly good at preventing stains. I am a coffee and tea lover and drink at least 3-4 cups a day of one or the other or both. I've rarely used whitening strips since I started using them. Maybe 1-2 times a year just to make sure I get those exact edges of my teeth that are mostly flossed and don't get as much toothpaste as the surface but I honestly can't even say my teeth are after 6 months are no longer discolored. It's nice not spending $80 a year on whitening strips because I actually have a toothpaste that prevents stains. A word of warning to those prone to tooth decay: it does NOT contain fluoride. Apagard says it has anti-caries effects and I don't doubt it for its tooth-remineralizing nature, but fluoride is a great ingredient to help prevent tooth decay. My advice, if you're buying this, add a fluoride mouthwash like ACT for an extra dose of the good stuff that helps prevent tooth decay.
