Review on Fujifilm X-E3 Mirrorless Digital Camera with XF18-55mm Lens Kit - Silver by Justin Early

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good reliable camera and still camera

This would be a likely 5 star purchase except it has a lot more than I need and the learning curve seems tough. My favorite camera of all time was the Leica M2 with an Elmarit 28mm f:2.8 lens. It was film and this is digital. Fuji corresponds to the characteristics of Leica, is more modern and easier to use. So far I have disabled Bluetooth and WiFi. It's not needed, but it's there. The photos are clear and the camera is responsive. BUT, every time I put my fingers on the LCD screen, the automatic function takes a picture. You have to figure out how to kill it or get used to it. I'm not a touchscreen person. The included instructions are comprehensive and about the size of a very thick sticky notepad. I found a manual online, downloaded it as a PDF and printed out a book size book. Now I'm studying Fuji Digital 101 the old-fashioned way. I think the included CD would have helped. There's room for one in the box, but no full-size manual. The autofocus is sharp, fast and reliable. You have to be careful when you press the shutter button halfway to focus. This takes practice, but shouldn't be a real problem. Great camera. Just more bells and whistles than I expected or planned. This is the keeper; I bought mine with a 23mm f:2 lens and plan on adding a 50mm f:2 lens to complete the set. Don't plan on adding a zoom as that contradicts my intention of using it as an outdoor camera. The Q menu on the LCD can greatly simplify the learning process. The time will show. Yes, registering the product on the Fuji website was a breeze. I think I will be a happy Fuji user for a long time. Additive; Like the Q menu. The most important settings are made with a single keystroke without scrolling through conventional digital camera menus. I particularly like the ability to choose from one of the 9 film simulations, including the Acros black and white film. There is also an imitation of color film; but I don't see much difference between them (never seen when it was a real movie). Sure, it's a little finicky, but that's up to the user, not the camera. This is definitely my outdoor camera.
