I live northwest of Tucson, Arizona. And Scorpios are part of the environment. But they have to stay outside without exception. In the 15 months that we have lived in Arizona I have caught seven bark scorpions that have entered our home. opportunity to get in and were not stopped by insecticides. So I did a little research to find a UV light that I can use to find them at night. This UV flashlight has been well reviewed and emits 365nm UV light which I have read is ideal. It creates a faint but visible central dot surrounded by a fairly wide and very faint circle. There is no LED on the body of the UV flashlight to indicate that it is on. Instead, when you turn it on, a small blue ring of light is visible, only visible within the lip at the working end of the world. When I first turned it on I thought it wasn't putting out much light - I was wrong. I soon found that it only illuminated my shirt due to UV reflections from objects in front of me. We have LED light bulbs at home, and I can make the little phosphors in those bulbs glow orange with this light from 6 feet away. outside UV. I have found that I can see the glow of scorpions at a decent distance (10-15 feet easily). They fluoresce bright green when illuminated by the beam. This fluorescence is very bright compared to other objects, making them easy to spot. I would recommend being fully clothed when using this UV light. Yellow goggles or lenses are required. Pants and long sleeves are probably a good idea. I've found that keeping the light farther from my body is psychologically more comfortable for me than a regular flashlight would normally do. I tried to keep the light off any exposed skin. I can't comment on durability yet as I've only had it for a short time. Housing made of matt anodised aluminium. It looks good and feels good. The switch on the back works well. The threads on the back are quite well finished for this price point and the light comes with an O-ring to ensure a decent seal. Three AAA batteries are placed in a plastic battery holder that fits into the flashlight body. Despite the reasonableness, the plastic battery holder is not very reliable. I felt I had to be careful when inserting the batteries into the slots in the mount. Time will tell how well it will last. The front of the light, where the UV LED is located, heats up during use but does not get hot. If you're looking to find old spills, stains, and pet stains around your home, this light is likely to reveal a lot more than you might expect. The center spot is a more concentrated UV source, so the spots there look much brighter than the much dimmer light outside the center. For me, the bright center piece made the use of light in the room a little more work. I found I needed a wider beam than a regular flashlight. To spot scorpions at night, this little flashlight works great the way it is. As long as the scorpion is somewhere in a wide cone of light, it shines and is easy to see. If you light them with a central point they shine really bright. So far the light has worked very well for spotting scorpions so I will continue to use it for that purpose.
