Review on Efficient Aquatic Cycling with Tetra SafeStart Plus for New Aquariums by Stacy Watkins

Revainrating 5 out of 5

It works! best in other animals

I'll admit I didn't follow any of the directions for these stuff, but it worked anyway. My aquarium has been on the bike for over a month and we were in the ammonia<nitrite stage, but the second strain of bacteria didn't grow big enough for nitrite<nitrate. The nitrite peaks were constant up to twice a day, so for some time I had to do large water changes, sometimes twice a day, even though I overdosed on Seachem Prime and bought a Purigen. Yesterday I decided I'm tired of looking at the safe starter bottle on my shelf that I bought a month ago to power a large 50g tank that I haven't started yet and figured it wouldn't hurt to add after a water change. on my 10g temporary home for my 3 goldfish. I added a full cap and realized what the heck and just poured the entire 8.25 ounce bottle into the filter after shaking it like crazy being careful to add some aquarium water into the bottle, to get rid of any bacteria. It fogged up my tank like crazy but within an hour or so it all cleared up because I have ultra high filtration that completely filters all water 30 times an hour. Crazy and Prime is a nitrite and ammonia detoxifier, but it only binds them until the biofilter can swallow it, it doesn't remove them, so I used Safe Start and Prime together when they say you shouldn't, but my tank did was near the end of its cycle so I don't know if it will work with a new tank. Anyway I wasn't expecting much, I just wanted to get rid of the bottle but I checked for ammonia and nitrite after 13 hours. and got 0 for both and this morning they are still zero and nitrate is at 10ppm. So this thing helped end my cycle, woo! I have quite a lot of bacteria in my tank and I'm so glad it worked, the water is very clear and my tank looks beautiful! The best part is my little fish are finally safe and I can really enjoy them without worrying about the spikes getting out of control and hurting them. No more daily water changes and no more lugging buckets and jugs! I don't know what to do with all this free time as it has been constant water changes and compulsive water testing for over 40 days. I will be happy if I can start a 50g aquarium because now I know that using safe start will probably be very successful!

Pros
  • good stuff
Cons
  • lots of stuff
