Review on ๐Ÿ’พ Terramaster D5-300C USB 3.1 (Gen 1) Type C 5-Bay RAID Enclosure - RAID 0/1/Single Support, Exclusive 2+3 RAID Mode, Diskless Hard Drive RAID Storage by Drew Gengler

Ideal as a backup device, misleading description

The price is too high for what we actually have. You can expect 4 Gbps instead of 7.2 Gbps or 10 Gbps if everything worked as described. I wish they would skip the included tools and spend the money on a decent power adapter instead. If you expect something at Thunderbolt RAID level, look elsewhere. While the aluminum chassis is quite durable, it increases fan and drive noise and is not suitable for noise-sensitive work environments. Pros: Works out of the box with Linux, MacOS X, and Windows. clear instructions. Easy setup. Lots of screws and tools included. Has carts with mounts that work with 2.5" and 3.5" drives. Cons: The included cable and the case itself don't meet USB 3.1 and USB-C specs. Actual throughput using 7200 RPM HGST drives in a striped RAID array is consistent with a USB 3.0 device. A 3.3 amp/12V power supply is not that long ago from this world. The supplied cables are very short. The injection molded plastic actuator housing acts as a thermal insulator for actuator heat. The volume of the device during operation is approx. 60 dB (normal conversation). Overload. Verdict: Unless you're expecting an incredibly fast, quiet, always-on case that you can tuck under your desk while you work, it works adequately as a dual drive sometimes used alongside your computer.

Pros
  • . Compatible with Mac, Windows and Linux computers and also works with Thunderbolt 3 computers. This is a DAS, not a NAS.
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
