This NAS was purchased to replace an old 7 year old Buffalo LinkStation for home use. We use it as a central file server to share photos, videos and music between 4 desktops as well as various files that we all need access to. We bought 2 new WD 6TB Red drives, they showed up right away and we set up one as the primary media and the second as a backup volume to run automatic backups of all our PCs. We then pulled a 2TB SATA drive from the enclosure of an old Buffalo NAS along with another 2TB SATA drive from an external USB hard drive. Both were also built into this new ReadyNAS. The discs are held in place with a clamp/cage system that feels very secure. The case itself has a sturdy handle at the top to transport the device from the living room table (installation area) to our network hub area (fixed location). All discs each started in less than 10 minutes. The software's interface is quite intuitive and we had no problem creating shared volumes and permissions for different user accounts. This is probably too much for most households but we have 1 home office software developer, 1 photo/vcr and 2 college students so it was a very good setup allowing us to expand later if needed. WARNING that you must install disks - it clearly says Diskless!
