I used it wrong at first but then I read the instructions and started holding it high enough that only the ends of the bristles touch the surface of the plate. Antistatic is VERY effective. I just opened a new record that had so much static between the record and the protective liner that it was really difficult to remove the record. As I pulled it out, I placed the record on top of the paper and felt the paper fly off the stand as the record approached. All it took was a quick pass down both sides of the record and all static was completely gone. It was the difference between day and night. I spin the brush a few turns before playing a record and after flipping it. I have another brush, a bit stiffer, that I use for dirtier used albums that I've picked up from random spots, but this brush is perfect for superficial things.
