For the going price of only twelve dollars, I wasn’t expecting much with this knife, but it has exceeded my expectations. Is it akin to a high-end knife? No, but you’re getting a lot for your money with this budget folder. By using the 8Cr13MoV steel, it has the edge retention of blades that is more in line with mid-tier knives, with a decent hardness of Rockwell 62. It won’t keep its edge as long as better steels, but it is a steel that is easy to sharpen and that is very forgiving.Out of the box, opening this knife is smooth as butter and easy to manipulate one handed. The weight of this blade is quite light, but it is comfortable in the hand; it weighs in at scant 2.5-ounces. The pocket clip has just the right amount of tension that it is easy to clip to my Carhartt pocket, but I am not afraid of it falling out. I also like that there are three screws retaining the clip instead of two like on so many other budget knives. The textured scales on the handle are very comfortable, a good thickness, and they have the right amount of texturing for good purchase without being slick or too aggressive. The knife is only 1-cm thick, not including the pocket clip. The attention to detail on the tolerances of this knife is what impressed me the most. When you close the knife, there is barely enough room to slide in a small paperclip between the blade and the handle. Granted, more expensive knives have a much smaller space due to higher tolerances, but for a twelve-dollar knife this is better than expected and the blade falls squarely in the center of the handle when folded and there is no wobble to speak of when it is open or in the closed position. This has a linerlock system, which is a tried-and-true blade locking mechanism, and on this knife it works flawlessly. Granted, it is difficult to close a linerlock blade on-handed, but with some care and effort, I can do so with this knife fairly easily.Despite my praises of this knife, there are concessions that one must make for only twelve dollars, although these cons are not anything worth deducting a star for unless this were a much more expensive knife.- There is no Spring Assist Opening on this knife, although once you get the blade started open with your thumb, you can get it flicked open pretty quickly.- The pocket clip is not reversible. I wouldn’t expect it to be at this price, but it would have been a nice feature if you could set it up for left or right pocket carry. This is also a tip-down carry orientation with the clip, and that cannot be changed.Despite my nitpicks, it is an impressive knife for the price, and one that I will happily put into my EDC rotation. Ironically, I ordered this knife so that I could use it in place of my expensive folders when I might fear accidentally losing one of those, but I like this budget knife so much that I would be disheartened if I lost this one as well. I think I’ll need to get a budget-budget knife to use in place of this one in such situations so that this one isn’t easily lost.
