These carbon monoxide detectors do not have a long service life. This is the second purchase in 8 years. They are very easy to install. I really didn't need a new set of cables, which hopefully can be recycled. I have no idea if the old detector can be recycled. There is no recycling information on the product or packaging. I have a detector because my home is connected to it and it is required by law. My stove produces the most carbon monoxide when it is on. My HVAC technician checked it out. The detector is located next to the gas dryer and the carbon monoxide free oven. The walls of my apartment are not insulated and there is a draft from the windows. I open the kitchen window and turn on the fan when I use the oven. That being said, I think my chances of carbon monoxide poisoning are zero.
