🔥 Kidde Hardwired Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Detector with Voice Alert & Battery Backup – Interconnect Combination Alarm Review

What I hated most about my old smoke and carbon dioxide alarms was that I never knew when the backup batteries were going to run out until they started giving false positives (usually at 3:00am!) when I saw them on Revain with a display feature that shows when the batteries are low - And then I saw that the electrical fitment was the same as my old ones - AND I saw a really good PRICE! I couldn't order them fast enough! I absolutely love them!

As another reviewer noted this is just a CO monitor, when connected to real smoke detectors it gives an alert if those smoke detectors go off an alarm but this device is in fact it doesn't detect smoke itself, leaving me at a loss as to where I just need some sort of monitoring and no smoke detection. It's better to go for a real estate model and check what you're getting during the return window, because one of the ones I got was bad right out of the box.

I'm replacing the old unit with a new one exactly the same. On the old device, the battery exploded and burned a hole in the battery compartment, the photo shows black soot and a hole. Not sure if it was a bad 9 volt battery (from BJ) or something wrong with the detector itself as it is hardwired to 110 volts and only uses the battery as a backup. Like something happened and it put the energy back into the battery and it exploded. Luckily no fire. Very strange. See photos.

I bought two of these and the battery in each died after 5 weeks (3 days apart). When I replaced the batteries, I discovered that the battery installed by the company was an unnamed crap from Malaysia. A great way to save a penny on production. Considering these are potentially life saving devices, it seems to me that they should come with Energizer or Duracell alkaline batteries that last 6 months. I will no longer buy Kidde devices. I have been using this carbon monoxide alarm or at least the same model number for 10 years. The first one I installed worked great for about 9 years with no false positives. I'm alive too, so I'm assuming he didn't detect carbon monoxide. I also never had to change the 9 volt battery during this time. Unlike my older units, you have to unscrew it from the wall plate to change the battery. Too bad the 9 volt backup battery needs to be accessible from the front of the unit. Otherwise, you'll be twisting electrical wires every time you need to change the battery (of course it will beep every 60 seconds when the battery is low to remind you!) These carbon monoxide detectors do not have a long service life. This is the second purchase in 8 years. They are very easy to install. I really didn't need a new set of cables, which hopefully can be recycled. I have no idea if the old detector can be recycled. There is no recycling information on the product or packaging.
