After replacing my old plastic chair frame, the chair rolls easier. Especially when changing direction when the wheels have to turn. To be fair the plastic base of the chair I replaced is around 15-20 years old. This loosened the channels for the wheel stems and thereby tilted some of the wheels off-centre. This problem was exacerbated when I switched to inline skate style polyurethane wheels. All of these problems went away when I replaced the base. A replacement was necessary because one of the legs of the old base had completely failed. I just needed to find a (hopefully) safer base; I didn't expect it to improve my bowel movements otherwise, but it did! As mentioned in other reviews, installing casters/wheels is not difficult if you install the wheels to the base BEFORE installing the base to the chair column. The resistance is sufficient (taking into account the variability of the roller bars), but when uninstalled, you can put it upside down on the floor and press the rollers with all your weight. I would find this very difficult if the base was on a chair, which would require sideways pressure. As for removing the old base, a couple of taps with a rubber mallet was enough (be careful to only hit the edge of the column and not directly in the middle, which could damage the air piston, which is part of the height adjustment mechanism that helped, alternately on the B-pillar (towards the seat) followed by a tap on the base in the opposite direction "diameter is as described) and has a nice black matte finish. It's a fairly smooth and slippery surface. If So if you have the habit of tucking your feet in and resting a foot or two on your foot, you might want to consider one of the alternatives that integrate textured plastic on the ends of your feet. As for my use, don't and prefer the clean look of this base Finally, these legs are lighter than I expected, just an old plastic base (which, I must hi n add, very thick, heavy plastic) so I wouldn't call them flimsy. Just easier than I expected. We have two other office chairs that will likely need replacing in the future. When the time comes I plan to buy this base for them again.
