Review on 📸 Panasonic Lumix Leica DG Summilux Lens for G Series by Jeremy Monroe

Overall: I think u4/3 has really reached a turning point. Both Olympus and Panasonic offer quality bodies and lots of great lenses. This Panasonic lens is one such lens. The pictures are excellent. Pros: + Nice images + Fast aperture + Includes nice lens hood and acceptable body + Wonderful in low light (paired with OMD E-M5) Cons: - Price - Size This Panasonic lens produces amazing images in low light and all day. No visible artefacts and a field of view of 50 mm (full frame) ensure a natural and user-friendly look. The lens also lets you focus up close, so you can get pretty close to get some nice bokeh. The beauty of u4/3 lenses is that most of them work very well even wide open. If you shoot wide open at f1.4 you still get a good depth of field. I honestly think u4/3 lenses shot wide open have one big advantage: you get an f1.4 aperture and f2.8 depth of field (I think) at full frame, so you get more of the subject , which should be sharp . Since the focusing is done by the sensor, you get great shots every time. For real-world use, this means you can photograph a person and get their near eye perfectly in focus. (Olympus OM-D E-M5 can shoot near the eye, left eye and right eye). Also, because of the greater depth of field, you don't just have one eyelash in focus. Keep in mind that this is actually a 25mm lens, so you need to be pretty close to the subject to get that kind of bokeh. If you want to shoot at the usual distances (with APS-C or full frame), I recommend you take a look at Olympus' excellent 45mm and 75mm lenses. Colors are saturated and the lens is very sharp from the center to the corners. This lens has no problem getting high quality images. Another advantage of the u4/3 is that you can focus very close to the edge of the picture with most bodies. You just can't do that with a full-frame sensor. My only wish is for the lens to get smaller while keeping the spirit of the u4/3 size advantage. However, if it were a full-frame f1.4 lens, the glass would be significantly larger and the lens itself would be larger and heavier. In summary, this is a great lens that offers a lot of performance for anyone looking for a 50mm lens (field of view equivalent to full frame) for their U4/3 camera. The low light capabilities of this lens are remarkable.
