I was born and raised in Holland and we call it the 'gourmet kit' (raclette is a completely different matter, but I won't go into detail :)). For the past 20 years I've talked about it with my wife and kids and finally decided to buy a set. There are a lot of them and price wise this seemed like an average option. What I'm not sure is that 110 volts isn't enough to properly heat such devices in the US or there is a risk of fire. Reasons for the temperature drop. Our Dutch grown gourmet set was much hotter than this so you can actually sear meat/veg and it takes less than 15 minutes to cook a tiny piece of chicken. This set did a great job cooking. Too bad the ingredients didn't burn, but we were able to work around that and enjoy our "gourmet" meal. Other than that we had wonderful meals with this dish and I'm very glad I got this one. If a good whisper is important to you, then this is not for you. I would suggest if you are planning a meal, have a few side dishes ready so you don't have to wait most of the evening for the meal to be ready.
