Perfect size, great price! A bit fussy about the coloring.

I needed a long table for my lobby. I have an antique barn window I was looking to install and needed it to match my original existing cherry wood paneling. I really couldn't afford some of the items I saw so I decided to try this one. It worked very well! It is made from parawood, also called rubber tree. I don't know much about wood but I think it's a fast growing sustainable wood like bamboo which is reflected in the lower price (compared to something like cherry or oak). together. Some reviews of this type of thing mentioned people had issues with glue stains. I wet mine first to see if I had any glue stains because those stains don't absorb stains well. Not me. Be sure to let it dry before painting. I had a dark gel color so I tested it on the bottom first. I wiped it off and then removed it like you do with a stain. You can see in my photo that even though he darkened it, it wasn't anywhere near "dark". More like walnut or dark oak. And the grain was highly translucent, almost making it a block of meat. Not what I was aiming for. Even if I left it for a long time or tried to build a coat. It's not getting darker. My solution was to apply the gel in a very thick layer. Almost like you do when you make a steel door look like a wooden door. You get some grain by thinning it out with the brush enough that the wood shows through (I didn't want the rough grainy look of the practice tool). And you don't erase it. It's almost like painting, only in thinner layers. I had to apply 2 coats all over and even a 3rd here and there to get the fine grained look I wanted. Don't cover up the whole tree, you need some grain. After everything was dry I applied several coats of glossy polyurethane to it, sanding lightly between coats to make it smooth. I used crumpled brown paper for the finishing touches. I really like how it turned out. I'm not a finisher so mine doesn't look like glass but close. And it matches my other woodwork! I've gotten a lot of compliments on Thanksgiving!
