Review on 🚨 Kidde Hardwired Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Detector with Lithium Battery Backup - Pack of 6 by David Edwards

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Easy to install if you follow the instructions

I bought 4 of these to replace existing ones replace outdated fire alarms. I tightly connected and connected everything. Existing smoke detectors were the older Firex-style cable connector, which is integral and wider, and has two pins, a space, and another pin. If you have an old connector and want to use these new connectors you will need to purchase the KA-F2 harness adapter, also available from Revain. NOW I see the biggest complaint about people saying that the backup batteries died on arrival. These people did not follow the installation instructions, including the specific step of activating the battery with the base plate BEFORE the base plate was installed. The backup battery is activated by FULLY locking the fire detector onto the base by rotating it until it is fully locked. Once you have done that, unscrew the smoke alarm from the base, mount it to the ceiling, connect the wiring harness and reattach it fully to the base. There is no technical reason why you need to do this, but it is much better to see and feel when the smoke alarm is fully mounted on the base when working with it on a table rather than on the ceiling. I haven't had any problems with any of the new blocks. Thanks to the wiring adapter, I didn't have to turn off the power and fiddle with the wiring. It probably took less than 5 minutes to install the smoke alarm. All tested well, no battery beeps and no replacement for the next 10 years. The only thing I will notice is the green LED that shows it's working. It's a bit bright. You can see it clearly in a dark room at night. For those who are very sensitive to LED lighting, you can take a marker or black nail polish and dim the LED light a bit. It's not too bright but clearly visible at night. All in all I would buy them again.

Pros
  • Fire and carbon monoxide detector in one unit with alarm modes, LED indicators, test shutdown button and replacement alarm: buzzer to let you know unit replacement
