I bought this detector because it was the cheapest "installed" detector I could find on the market. I don't like having speed camera detectors visible as I've had law enforcement harassment for their presence in the past. Although they are legal in my state, I (pardon the pun) prefer to fly discreetly. The system is easy to install and has multiple mounting options. I installed the sealed sensor just below the front license plate at a 40 degree angle to the road. Only if you look closely can you see the black border. The cables to the display run behind the upholstery on my door pillar and it sits above the rear-view mirror on the roof so it's not visible from the outside. A speaker is mounted on the driver's ear panel for you to hear over the stereo. The USB connector for the GPS module is hidden in my ashtray, and the GPS antenna itself is in the passenger corner of the dashboard. Plenty of cables are included, and the RJ-11 connectors make it easy to extend with a regular phone cord if needed. The sensitivity of the device is fantastic, almost flawless. A few miles further I spot automatic doors, but every time a cop comes up next to me I get a two-minute warning because the locals don't turn off their radars. The Ka RSID feature is useful here as the 34.7 Ka or 35.5 Ka alert definitely tells me that LEO is right around the corner. It's not possible to turn off the normal K (no RSID), but luckily you can turn off the X-Band alerts (they're not normally used anymore). The laser is mostly useless during the day as it fires every 30 seconds. I tried different areas, different times of the day, etc. Cloudy days are decreasing, but they're still common enough that I've had to disable laser detection. The only adjustments are the LSID frequency, which doesn't help as turning off some of them will blind you to that LIDAR maker. With a GPS device I get warnings from traffic cameras, which unfortunately cannot be selectively deactivated. There are only two red light cameras in my town and the highway is so close to both that I am warned when I drive on the highway. I can set low volume levels when speeds are below a certain level, although that range can only reach 45mph, limiting its usefulness. confused about the meaning of the sound. It can also be set to tell you to slow down, which I find useful. I accelerate regularly and when maneuvering I can easily approach reckless speed when I'm not looking at the speedometer because I'm concentrating on the road. Whistler sternly reminds me not to drive like a maniac, just stay just ahead of the traffic. In general, he does what he says - detects the radar. Very good at it. But without traffic light suppression or GPS-based mute (like some of the competition), it keeps turning off. In the more populated north end of my state, this is almost useless as DOT has speed sensors every four miles that emit K-band which shows up as POP mode. I should point out that he rolled at least twenty LEOs down the road in three months. , found five cars empty (dummy slowdown cars) and saved me at least one ticket that would have cost more than $500 had I not been warned a good mile. I don't speed all the time, but on trips over 300 miles, a 10-20 mph difference can save hours.
