I have owned several models of air purifiers with a HEPA filter and they have all lasted many years. They can gradually get louder over the years, but it's a steady white noise that's not that worrisome. This unit was great when it arrived, but after a few weeks it started squeaking and rattling and has been getting louder and louder ever since, even at low speed. For three months it was so loud that it disturbed my sleep even when I moved it to another room with the door closed. I've also been working with HEPA filters in the asbestos industry for several years and they don't need to be changed every 2000 hours of use (several months) as the instructions say. They last for years and become more efficient with age and do not need to be replaced until they are clogged enough to allow air to flow through them efficiently.
