Excellent protection against the heat of the coals in a wood-burning stove, as well as the metal of the stove when it gets inside. My old pair was shorter and hung off the top of the plate on my arm hence the burn just below the tattoo. They are much longer and have double layers of leather where you need it. You can reach the stove while it's burning and don't have to rush because of the heat. I only use them to load the stove, not to stack firewood or bring it around the house etc. It serves a purpose for me; Heat the stove and don't burn me. They let you move freely and are soft to the touch, but don't expect to pick up a dime. I definitely recommend these gloves for everyday use. Even if you glue, they're fine. If you cook for a moment I think they will kill. I might buy another pair so I don't have to hunt down the road when these finally wear out.
