Review on Western Digital WD Blue NVMe 500GB M.2 SSD WDS500G2B0C by Wiktor Franko ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Reliable purchase, guaranteed to be a good purchase.

Review on SSD WD Blue SN550 NVMe M.2 500GB (model code WDS500G2B0C). SSD is positioned as a mid-range drive, ie. it is faster than an SSD with a SATA interface, but noticeably inferior to the top-end NVMe SSDs. CONFIGURATION: WDC WDS500G2B0C-00PXH0 M.2 500GB; Firmware 211210WD. Windows 10 Pro [build 19041]; NTFS (4 KB); win driver. Intel i5-10400F; ASRock Z490 Phantom Gaming 4; RAM 32.0 GB. SPEED: Test results in pictures. Real write speed on large files: reading - 1.35 GB / s; recording - 1.5 GB / s (up to ~ 6 GB), 430 MB / s (after ~ 6 GB) ! That is, with continuous recording of large data arrays, after a threshold of 6 GB, the write speed drops sharply from 1500 to 430 MB / s. TEMPERATURE: The M.2 connector is away from heat sources, there are no SSD cooling devices. Ambient temperature 21°C. Idle 34°C, after writing 20 GB 48°C. In the WD brochure [dated 02202222 No. 02-01-WW-04-00050-K05-P01] states: 7) The SSD enclosure can withstand temperatures up to 60°C; 8) If the operating temperature is exceeded, data integrity is not guaranteed. PHYSICAL parameters: in my case - weight 6.27 g; height 22022 mm (max), 1 mm (textolite). TOTAL: Expectations (based on the manufacturer's advertising booklets and independent reviews) from the SSD were not fully justified. The SHARP DROP when writing large data arrays was an unpleasant surprise. In advertising from the manufacturer about such "effects" not a word. True, independent reviews point to this feature, but for the previous WDS500G1B0C model, this drop was not so sharp (up to 750 MB / s). It turns out that WD was able to "improve" the characteristics of the SSD and reduce the write speed to 430 MB, but decided not to upset users and did not report this "success". In my case, this is not critical and I did not lower the rating. But the manufacturer is obliged to report about such properties of SSD. The 3Dnews. Ru website has a good review of the first version of this SSD model (WDS500G1B0C).

Pros
  • As it should be with an SSD compared to an HDD - high speed, silence, light weight and dimensions. Reliable manufacturer. A useful (and free :)) utility is available - Acronis True Image for Western Digital.
Cons
  • In some cases, the write speed is 3 times lower than what WD promises.

Its pros: The speeds are close to the declared ones. Its cons: There is no bolt in the kit, I didn’t have my own, I got tired of looking.
