I have 2 cats and noticed that one of them likes to drink from the running faucet. I decided that a running fountain would be better than me waiting on him at the faucet. This fountain works great. The motor is silent, but I can hear running water if I'm close enough to it. It's fairly quiet, but I can hear it. I liked this fountain so much that I bought a 2nd one so I can have one in the kitchen and one in the bedroom. They are quiet enough that the one in the bedroom does not keep me up at night. I washed them out once a week and it's easy to take apart and put back together. Since I use filtered water, I do not use the filters in the lid, but I do use the black sponge around the motor. I just remove that, soap it up and rinse well before putting it back. I do add water to it during the week, about a cup every couple of days, until I wash the entire thing (on Sundays). I like that the fountain is adjustable. One cat took to it right away. The other cat took about a month, but now they both drink from it. I do think they are drinking more with the running fountain than they did with a bowl of still water. My only caution is to check to make sure yours isn't bent. One of mine arrived sightly bent around the rim. It wasn't a big deal and didn't affect the way it works so I didn't return it, but it does make it a bit harder to take apart and put back together since the rim is slightly bent. I'm still very happy with the purchase and would recommend.
