My only concern is that one of the C-rings broke so easily from tears within the first week of use. Not to mention that some of the strobe functions don't work properly. The poi itself is a durable plastic that can withstand some sort of abuse (of course, there's a case to absorb a lot of such abuse). Each poi uses 1 AAA battery and works according to the lighting function that is turned on. I personally don't mind batteries, but I think it would be great if it also had a USB charging feature so you can switch between power sources or extend usage time when using lights. Generally, I wish I didn't feel like my poi didn't break within a week. Don't get me wrong, I was able to easily replace the C-ring and all. But the vast majority of my lighting functions just don't work properly. If you're getting these as your first starter kit, I wouldn't recommend them. Maybe on a more professional level because they are VERY VERY BEAUTIFUL and crisp. But despite some abuse, they can break down pretty quickly, especially when they face each other. i still love her
