For a decorative little light strand in a jar, these are bright enough, but don't expect them to light up dark spaces by themselves. They charge well even in partial shade and filtered sunlight and last pretty much all night. They were clearly visible from a quarter mile away through partial tree cover. The option to open them up and put in a single AAA if the rechargable has issues (or to be sure you get max output) is a nice feature- be careful doing this, though, the battery panel isn't designed to come all the way off. Jar is glass, nice enough. The lid and base are cheap plastic but look fine.I hung up several of these along the path that goes around my tree-lined pond and they look very pretty, also shining through the trees and reflecting off the water. They don't illuminate the path at all, though. In full darkness, standing next to one, you can't really see your feet. I also tested light levels with them mounted 8" off the ground with the included hardware. There is moderate illumination, the very least you would need to light a path, within a 1 foot radius, and very dim light for about 2 additional feet beyond this. If spaced apart with a lamp every 2 feet, they can effectively light a path, though keep in mind that the path and your feet will be lit and little else. All light testing was done with brand new name brand AAA batteries to ensure I was getting the most the lights are capable of.I'm not unhappy with the result, but I do think the brightness is a bit misrepresented in the photos in this listing. These are excellent decorative lights, and a decent value for what they are, but I wouldn't buy them expecting them to illuminate an area as well.
