I used this to cut 1/2 inch thick ragweed maple. First I tried to cut through the entire board at once. I made a lot of heat and smoke and broke one of the pieces. Then I started cutting through only 1/3 the thickness of the board at a time. It was still giving off a lot of smoke and heat so I stopped often to let the drill cool down. Then I went and bought a jigsaw to clean up the rough edges. I think this tool works best on softer, thinner woods. It creates a nice round circle, so in the future I might use it to trace the circle to create an indentation on the hardwood. I will then use a jigsaw to cut through the thickness of the wood.
