Review on C. Crane CC Pocket AM FM and NOAA Weather Radio: A Versatile Clock and Sleep Timer Companion by Michael Jennings

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Higher frequencies than Sangean but louder and clearer speaker

The CC Crane speaker sounds much louder and clearer than the Sangean DT-400W speaker. The CCrane speaker sounds higher frequency than the Sangean. This suits me as I hear radio conversations much clearer and louder. The Sangean sounds smoother and richer, but the volume needs to be kept low or it will start sounding harsh. The Sangean is designed to be heard up close to appreciate the sound. CCrane can handle a little more volume and still sounds cleaner. CCrane can be heard much louder and still sound nice and clear. I can hear CCrane from afar and still hear it clearly and loudly. CCrane is much easier to listen to than Sangean as you can turn it up louder and the sound is clear even at high volumes. The Sangean has a quiet speaker and the CCrane has a loud speaker. Even though you can turn up the volume on CCrane, it never gets very loud. But it's loud enough. The more I listen and use it, the more I like this radio. This is the goalkeeper. They pay more for CCrane than Sangean for a reason. When the volume is turned up, it sounds much louder and clearer. It has great features that Sangean doesn't have. I like the 5 separate buttons for storing your favorite radio stations. I also like the different switch off intervals, while the Sangean only has one, 90 minutes. I used the CCrane Pocket 30 minute radio last night and it worked great. I haven't used the alarm yet. Overall, CCrane Pocket has better and more useful features than Sangean. CCrane has good coverage of the Montreal outstation, CJAD, about 200 kilometers away. That's only during the day, but shows it's sensitive enough to pick up an AM station that far away. I have the following radios for comparison. Sangean DT-400W. Sony ICF-F10. Panasonic RF2400. Sangean PR-D5P. Kaito KA2005. Sony ICFP26 and old silver color model before this one. The best fitting case I have found for this radio is from the Insignia brand. (18I20W) This is a nice tight but comfortable fit with little room at the top. The case has clean lines when the zip is closed. Narrow front pocket. CCcrane radio with belt clip. Insignia is a minimalist CCcrane radio housing. Larger Body - Case Logic DCB-302. It has a larger front pocket. See photos where Insignia and Case Logic side by side.
