This is the only oil filter you should use on your 2001-2004 VW Passat B-5.5. Only use high quality synthetic oil such as Castrol Edge 0W-40 or 5W-40. The easiest way to change the filter is to remove the main air intake pipe in front of the engine manifold, then you can easily reach and screw on the filter by hand. I recommend a 5000 mile oil/filter change interval, even with synthetic oil, as there will be excessive turbo heat and oil degradation. The large capacity of this filter helps prevent turbocharger sludge problems that these engines are prone to.
