Review on πŸŽ›οΈ Nobsound HiFi 6J2 Vacuum Tube Preamplifier Stereo PreAmp with Digital Treble and Bass Tone Control in Black by Stacy Glasrud

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Looks good but very noisy, unacceptable! But wait. Read the full review.

Got this little preamp today, looks good and is well made. The problem is that this little thing crackles in the absence of a signal. I've connected it to my KRK V8s which on my NAD 1020 Series A are silent when the volume is turned down and when the volume is up, no barley whisper of signal. Thought the PSU might be to blame, hooked it up to a clean lab PSU and same result, crackling in the background. I'll give him a day or so to see if he stops but if he doesn't come back. Update: ok, I have to apologize very much here. I was ready to return this preamp, detuned by the noise. Well I decided to just leave it on for 3 days just burning with no signal. I turned my KRKs off so I didn't even notice if anything changed these days. Well I decided to just see if anything had changed the next day. OMG, noise, WAY! The RCA tubes are now clearly stale and sound amazing! So I have to say that this is a precursor to real people. For the price of a preamp plus an additional $20 per tube in the US. I'm blown away by the imagery and breathtaking dynamics this thing creates. When I was playing the Loggins album and Messina Full Sail Master Disc with the above system I heard the drummer spin the band on Travlin' Blues, I didn't even know he was there until now. Excuse the continuation, but try this preamp with American tubes and you'll love it. But just burn it a few days before you judge, I was so wrong.

Pros
  • Feel good
Cons
  • Vulgarity
