The iPad slides in easily but stays secure. I give 5 stars because it was relatively cheap. Mine is the one that looks like a black and white notepad. I'm still getting used to it. The hinged lid is quite thin, making it awkward to open. If I had longer nails to grab it it would be perfect. The lid measures approximately 1/8 inch and is tapered to fit the iPad, sitting flush with the edge of the iPad. The lid folds down nicely on the back to serve as a stand and works well for sitting on a sturdy table. The downside is that it only has one viewing angle. It closes well and puts the iPad to sleep. I'll be picking up an Apple Pencil this week to see how it fits and charges. My current Apple Pencil doesn't work with this iPad because Apple broke the 1st. Generations of pencils so that whoever advances has to pay them again. I'm only continuing because their latest update broke my iPad. Anyway, I love my new cover and for the price and the notebook's cool look, which mirrors my paper notebooks, I think I'll keep this one. Update a week later: I bought an Apples I Pencil and it works fine with the iPad case. . I fits snugly in the pen holder and starts charging immediately. Easy to remove by slipping your finger in the back slot and sliding the pin forward.
