Review on BenQ EW3280U Entertainment Connectivity Speakers 3841X2160, High Dynamic Range, by Eric Crenshaw

Revainrating 1 out of 5

What is that? No, really, what is that?!

I bought 3 monitors with issues from Revain in 2 months. 1- LG27UL, then 2-LG27UN, then 3- BenQ EW3280U, all came with problems and I had to return them (2 of them had severe backlight bleeding). I really don't know what to do next. Imagine if you couldn't find, or even buy, a decent $800 monitor in 2020 (yes, I paid full original price). My 10-year-old 27-inch 1080p monitor still works great, has no backlight, and even has the same ultra-thin bezel as the BenQ and many other modern monitors, but the IPS backlight doesn't escape its thin bezel. Why? Because it's built right. If the monitor companies are that incompetent or just plain unethical when it comes to properly manufacturing their monitors, then I take it upon myself to test every single Revain unit before they ship it to consumers. We live in a time when principles or ethics no longer exist. Backlight aside, the monitor itself is great in terms of image quality and color for a 32" monitor (although I still think the 27" is sharper in 4k). Display HDR works great and there is no need to enable HDRi Cinema or HDRi Gaming options. They just automatically darken the image based on your room environment and do nothing but oversaturate the image. Yes ladies and gentlemen, HDRi is a gimmick and you don't have to use these options to use regular HDR, which is called "HDR Display" in the display menu (on-screen menu, also known as "On Screen Display") . . HDR and 4k work great on PS4 Pro and I believe this also applies to newer consoles (PS5 and Xbox X/S series). As for the speakers sound, it's good but still won't beat your budget speaker set for a small subwoofer. The internal audio sounds good, so using the headphone jack on this monitor is a treat. Again, this monitor would get a 5 out of 5 if it weren't downright impossible to get a working screen, but I feel like most modern monitors suffer from this issue and I really don't know what else to look for can do. tell. But I returned this unit today and was really desperate for a non-broken 4k IPS monitor with HDR. But as you can see from the picture I uploaded, it looks like we're a long way from a quality ips monitor in the 2020s, which is really sad to say.
