I bought it to use with crayons.
This sketchbook is very well designed. It is durable and has a medium grip for pencils. Some of my colored pencils show through. I've tried markers and they shine through. The ballpoint pen worked well, as did regular graphite pencils or charcoal. The charcoal must be separated by an intermediate side. I haven't tried gel pens yet. For some media I would suggest heavier paper but the quality of their output is very good.
