The puck is well made and attractive and comes in a beautiful and beautifully designed box. It's heavy (1lb 12oz) but it's absolutely no problem for my turntable - the weight is on the bottom and the turntable isn't trying to lift the platter, it's trying to rotate the platter around a horizontal plane, so the weight of the Puck isn't really a problem. So far, so good. But does it do anything useful? People claim that the puck improves the sound of the records, making the bass deeper and clearer, and expanding the soundstage. If he did any of that, even if he improved the sound quality a bit, it wouldn't be hard to spend $80 on a puck, would it? That's why I bought it. I've had him for a few weeks now, he's heard a lot of records with and without the puck. Guess what? Hardly affects the sound quality. Claims that sounded too good to be true are not true in my experience. What about distorted recordings? In my experience, records that are slightly warped are not a problem whether I use this washing machine or not. Heavily warped records sound shaky, and this puck doesn't help them sound any better. So why the puck? I don't know and I regret the purchase. -- Update: Many people say it makes a difference and is worth the price. I believe they are telling the truth. What could explain why the puck works for some people but not for others? I'm not sure, but there is a possibility. My turntable came with a heavy acrylic sheet. Some turntables have platters made from lighter materials. Perhaps shims are more important on lighter platters, which without a shim can transmit more environmental vibration to the tonearm. (Sorry, I'm sure "ambient vibration" isn't the right word. I mean vibrations in a room, so subtle that most people don't notice, but enough to affect the very sensitive arm of most turntables. .) On the other hand, chances are that some people, whether they have a heavy platter or not, live in an environment with higher ambient vibrations, and for them, using a washer will help prevent platter vibrations from being transmitted to the tonearm.
