Review on Silver Broan Aluminum Power Pack Insert: Kitchen Stove Exhaust Fan & Light Combo, 8.0 Sones, 250 CFM by Thomas Taylor

Broan recommended this model as a replacement for my existing PM-25 which was twenty years old. This insert is a huge improvement over the previous model, but it had some downsides for my application. Because inserting instead of surface mount required fabricating and installing a 2.5" extension under the hood to avoid larger ducts. Second, unlike the previous model, which easily accepted a 7-inch duct, this model has three protruding flanges that require a lot of force. to insert the channel, then tape it to seal and hold it in place. This required the removal of a custom wood front panel which was nailed, sealed and painted when reinstalled and now requires a lot of work to touch up. This could have been avoided if it had had the same collar as the previous model. Finally, the LED bulbs on this model have a soft white that doesn't match our under-cabinet lighting. A minor thing, but it would be nice if the lighting options were adjustable and a little brighter. Overall a very good product that will last for many years.
