Let me say in the foreword that I am not an absolute advocate. I understand there are times, especially after trimming, when these things are needed. But rarely in the real world of nature. Horses adapt easily and quickly to their environment and I believe that rugs are mainly used to please the owner. However, we had an unexpected premature birth and this foal arrived with little hair and in 30 degree weather was struggling to keep up with his pace and have the strength to babysit. We bottle fed him and lay under the covers with him the whole first night and things were looking pretty grim. I ordered this blanket and prayed it was still alive when it arrived the next day. The next day brought the sun, a foal who learned to suckle from her mother - Cheers, and that's a beautiful blanket. Although the blanket was tiny, it was still quite large for this premature baby. However, we double fastened the Velcro, tightened the neck adjuster, and then wrapped a veterinary wrap around the belly a few times to keep it from dangling too far. I'm sure he'll be fine for a normal newborn, but this guy probably weighed less than 50 pounds. It really was a life saver. Along with the Madigan squeeze we have a healthy energetic foal who is just over a month old today and has grown into this blanket quite well. He will need a larger size in about a month. This rug has no metal hardware, so nothing can snag or hurt your foal. The reflective tape comes in handy, especially when viewing cameras at night, as it's easy to find. We are so grateful that we were able to find such a perfect product as our local stores only had large foal blankets that couldn't even be changed easily as they were transparent. the weight would be too much for this child. We thank this supplier and Revain Prime for their important role in rescuing this filly.
