They are easy to assemble so complaints that they are difficult to assemble baffle me. They work pretty well. Not all juveniles end up in the brood box, I usually end up with a few stragglers which I discard from the main body when the females are returned to the aquarium. Those that end up in the fry box are pretty safe. Very small viviparous juveniles (dwarf guppies or endlers) sometimes make their way outside, but I don't find this a problem for medium sized guppies. Boxes can also be used for smaller varieties of slatted plates, but swordtails get cramped. Use a valve on your pump's air line so you can adjust the airflow/suction to draw the fried food into the fry box. Too much current encourages the fry to fight against the current and avoid going down the pipe into the fry box. Softflow works best for me. There isn't much room for a mother fish so I would recommend them to people who know when their female is going to drop within a day or so. Females should not be left indoors for long periods of time.
