Review on GE 14298 Enbrighten Weather Resistant Smart Device by Kazuki Vong

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works well but very short and very strong cord difficult to use in outside outlets

I bought this switch as a much cheaper alternative to the Lutron Caseta outdoor switch as I also have a Z-wave and ClearConnect (and ZigBee, all integrated with my Hubitat Elevation and Lutron Bridge) are already in my house. This works well, but the cable is a little short and quite stiff, making it difficult to use in outdoor outlets with covers that don't leave much room for the cable to bend underneath. My weatherproof TayMac box works fine, but there aren't many cables protruding from the bottom of the box. off the ground to prevent rainwater or snow from falling on it). You can wall mount it (through the mounting holes) or hang it on a small shepherd hook with a cable tie. I just leave mine hanging right out of my outlets. Over time, the short and strong cable began to straighten out so that the jack was constantly pointing straight down. Otherwise it seems to be working fine. I had to get it very close to my Z-Wave hub (inside the house) for it to connect. However, once paired, it had no problem connecting to and accessing the Z-Wave mesh network. I have two of these that turn on two sets of lights when a motion sensor is triggered. Sometimes one of them cannot receive a Z-Wave signal, but this is very rare. The Lutron Caseta Outdoor Switch (note: ClearConnect, not Z-Wave) is a more rugged case with fewer installation constraints (and a longer length for flexibility). and the ability to secure the fork with Twist and Seal. However, the Lutron is much more expensive, so I like to use this GE Enbrighten model instead.
