easy installation

Purchased to be used with a 400w roof heating mat. It turned out that the power of the mat is 500 watts, so there may be a problem with using a smart outdoor socket. So we used it for the Christmas lights outside and it's very easy to use and set up. Lighting can now be controlled from inside or from anywhere with my phone. I have never had an external smart plug and will only use it now.

Pros
  • Everything great!
Cons
  • Ugly packaging

High reliability, durable flexible cable

The outdoor switcher was very easy to set up with my Z-Wave hub and worked flawlessly with the outdoor lights. My only complaint is that it's more expensive than many outdoor smart switches, and it only has one outlet. Also, the cord is very stiff, making it difficult to bend depending on the location of the outlet, and it can stick out instead of falling against the wall. If price weren't an issue, I would recommend this product.

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • The list goes on.

Works great with smarthings

I don't know why some people have trouble using this switch with smarthings (unless smarthings have other troubles). I have a Gen 1 that I've been using for over 2 years and now it's Gen 2 and they both work with no issues. The Gen2 does not have a rubber plug to cover the socket. So if you're planning on leaving it mounted outside without plugging it into an outlet, that could pose a problem. I don't mount mine so no problem for me.

Pros
  • Constant test results
Cons
  • Some minor issues

So far not as good as the previous generation

I still have 2 devices of the first generation that work 100% without any problems. I bought 2 second generation devices but only used one of them. so far. I've been using the second generation for the whole of last summer and it has worked fine, except that every week or so it has stopped responding and I had to unplug it and plug it back in to get it working properly again. However, I never had this problem with the first generation, not even in the same place with the same application.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Minor problems

GE disappointed again

When will I find out. I've used other GE SmartThings compatible devices in the past, mostly light switches, indoor and outdoor outlets. Sometimes they connect right away, sometimes they try multiple times, and in this case my SmartThing Hub never recognized it. I recommend staying away from GE devices, I have tried this desperately, this is the only device of this type that I have been able to find for the intended purpose. Other Z-Wave compatible brands have been excellent, they just don't…

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • Dubious purchase for seniors

I bought this switch as a much cheaper alternative to the Lutron Caseta outdoor switch as I also have a Z-wave and ClearConnect (and ZigBee, all integrated with my Hubitat Elevation and Lutron Bridge) are already in my house. This works well, but the cable is a little short and quite stiff, making it difficult to use in outdoor outlets with covers that don't leave much room for the cable to bend underneath. My weatherproof TayMac box works fine, but there aren't many cables protruding from the…

Pros
  • Ideal for a small house
Cons
  • Fine

Plugs not flat to fit sockets

I have 3 of these devices to control outdoor lights and a fountain. They work great with my Samsung Smart Things Hub. A problem. These are the "outer" forks. This means that the plug must be flat in order for you to close the lid on an "outdoor" outlet. I mean right? Thus, the lid does not close completely due to the plug and cord which can get water in during a downpour or from the sprinklers, which then turns off your GFI. Serious. Spirit. Please do this with a flat plug as I have seen with…

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

Comparison between Gen 2 and Gen 1

This rating is for a Gen 2 product and reflects my rating for Gen 1. I've been using the Gen 1 version for several years. It works great and has a long range even though I have repeaters at home (Aeotec). The Gen 2 is currently about $9 more (May 2020). This time I bought the Gen 1 and Gen 2 and tried them out at an outlet down the street about 100 feet from my house. Both worked fine. Gen 2 is smaller, maybe a third smaller. Gen 2 features a front panel indicator that can be programmed to turn

Pros
  • GOLS certified
Cons
  • Available in black only

This is the Z-Wave Outdoor Plug you are looking for!

First off, this is my second GE Z-Wave outdoor switch, I also have a Gen 1 model. Similarities between Gen 1 and Gen 2:1. Let's just start with that. Any model will just work and work fine, I've had no problems. They just connected to my Hubitat hub. They're both obviously out and therefore not very close to my Hubitat hub, but I've never had any issues with losing connection or being unusable. 2. Both have physical on/off buttons. Why is Gen 2 better than Gen 1:1? Less than 2. Includes the…
