Keeps car bag perfectly secure. The bag itself had excellent straps that have never loosened on our travels. We've added a roof mat to prevent scuffs and scratches on the paintwork and to keep the already secure bag from shifting or shifting when you're driving 80mph out west. The mat is thick and only slightly cushions sharp edges of the roof bag, such as the "hard" edge of a padded suitcase or the buckle of a backpack. When it was removed from the roof a week later, it was not sticking to the roof and causing no damage.
