Review on ZEROPLAY Miter Bars MICROJIG Double by Jonathan Sanders

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Well thought out product, makes my factory fixtures accurate

I make quite a lot of picture frames so I built the slide at a 45 degree angle to speed up the process and improve accuracy. I built a sled with hardwood skids to keep seasonal movement to a minimum. For the most part the slide worked fine, but I've recently tried wide board frames (mercilessly) and couldn't close the mitres properly. I checked the alignment of the saw blade with the miter slot and checked the alignment of the guide carriage with the saw blade using 45 triangles. Everything looked fine, but I quickly realized that there was too much play between the guides and the angled slot. I built the sled in August and it's winter now so the wood was shrinking and there was too much slop to get accurate cuts. After some research on the net I came across these instructions. I installed a plank on the sled and lined everything up over the top of the sled. The instructions are clear and to the point, including hole spacing, countersinking depth, etc. It's a little tricky to adjust the guide rail to the correct width to minimize tilt while still allowing smooth movement of the carriage. But 10-15 minutes on what should be an accurate instrument for years to come is worth it to me. The proof is in the results. Every corner of every frame is now tight and professional.
