I'm a government employee but I also really wanted all the cool manual features and all. D40 fits perfectly. Yes, 4MP doesn't seem like much compared to today, but I thought when will I ever print more than 8x10? 4 MP was ideal for me, more would be a waste. As I said, all functions are available. Choose your own shutter speeds and apertures, white balance, video (yes, video-sux, but that's true for most cameras. Just like digital camcorders take bad shots. Wait a few more years and you might be able to get a really good true hybrid (But I won't wait that long.) The only feature I really missed was the lack of a bounce hot shoe.It has a tripod mount. It's also a great point and shooter with multiple presets so you can use them use and if you decide to be brave and try other things, that's there too. It requires AAs which, if you're rechargeable and don't use the LCD screen, can last for quite a while. I used to be a photographer old school, so the viewfinder seems better to me anyway. One major downside that I heard about before buying was that when shooting with extremely high contrast, it could wreak havoc there is some purple bleeding. In the couple of years that I've owned this camera, I've never experienced that. And even if it does, it's easy to fix in Photoshop. The last thing I want to point out is that this is ALREADY deprecated. The memory cards used are a thing of the past and you will most likely have to look for them or buy them online. I bought 4 cards, which is enough for me to get several hundred shots, which is more than I expect to ever shoot at once. Oh, another thing I really liked - her size was perfect for me. Little ones have always felt weak and it becomes difficult to hold the camera properly when it's too light or too heavy. This isn't a wallet or a flimsy camera in a shirt pocket. But it fits perfectly in your pocket or purse. All in all, this is a great little camera for the price. Does everything I could ask for and even though the world is evolving with more technology I still don't feel compelled to miss out.
