Review on Astromania 1.25" 3.2Mm 58-Degree Telescope Planetary Eyepiece by Matt Ellis

Revainrating 5 out of 5

This was obviously a return, but it's an excellent eyepiece at f/8 focal ratio.

I tested this on a couple of stars, and on Jupiter. I only had a short viewing window, but this eyepiece gives a sharp image nearly to the edge of the field in a f/8 telescope. It is lightweight, has decent eye relief, and is easy to grip. Obviously a return, box was taped shut with packing tape, no padding in the box, other than an aftermarket zip lock bag, and the lower barrel was loose. These eyepieces come new with bubble wrap, wrapped in a larger bag, with a microfiber cleaning cloth.Edit: This eyepiece is a very good value for the money; at least this sample is. It gives as good an image as those costing in the $250 range, at least at an f/8 focal ratio and longer.I cannot see why someone returned it, unless they tried to use it in an f/4 scope or faster.

Pros
  • Exactly what I ordered
Cons
  • Prone to fogging up during humid conditions
