I have found the Fantom to have some of the most reliable drives I have ever used. My oldest drive is the Fantom and it still works where other brands have failed. This Fantom drive works great with my Dish Hopper 3. I plugged it in, turned it on and the hopper asked me to format it. He went through the format and Hopper informed Hopper that he was ready. The hopper recognizes the disc as another playable source. You can transfer items from Bin 3 to this drive to free up Bin 3 space. To play additional sources, click the new icon that appears after installing the drive and adding programs to the drive. The downside is that you can't access the extra drive through the Dish Anywhere app when traveling. After speaking to a Dish tech, I was told that this could become an option in the near future. The rest of the playback is flawless. I would especially recommend it if your Hopper 3 is heavily loaded. The transition from Hopper 3 to driving is pretty quick. Just 2-3 minutes for a 1 hour HD show. Hopper 3 has USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports on the back panel. I connected this drive to 3.0 because this drive is USB 3.0.
