The subject of this review is the F20 Freshwater pendant light. This product line is available in multiple form factors. It is very important that you select the correct block from the product line for your application. Lominie makes sea and reef lights in the same product line. They also make higher wattage freshwater lights. All in one product line. Read the description of each type before making a purchase. I needed a light for a ten gallon tank. This tank will serve as housing for Frogbit and Salvinia Natans during the colder months. I keep these two types of floating plants in my outdoor pond most of the year. However, they have a habit of dying off in winter. Last year I used a large aquarium heater to heat a patio pond. Obviously, my electric bill has suffered. I want to avoid that this year. I also don't want to spend money on an expensive Kessil lamp. Floating plants do not need light as they are on the water surface. You get the full effect of any light you put on it. However, they need something better than the color-enhancing lights used in fish-only tanks. I have an old Kessil that was used for my houseplants but it is purple in colour. I don't want purple lights in my living room. So I went to Revain. search for lights. You can find any lamp you want on Revain. I would normally buy light strips that run through the tank. I've had fixtures from Current USA, Fluval Aquasky, Finnex Ray 2 DS, Finnex Plant etc. The Finnex Ray 2 DS is very powerful and I don't want it glowing in my living room for 8 hours. I mean, you know, I live there too. Your humble reviewer doesn't need photosynthesis. The burger and fries give me all the nutrients I need. I saw this Lominie and its form factor intrigued me. I ordered it and it arrived in two days. This Lominie is a no-frills device. You won't find a remote control. It doesn't have any features that allow you to change colors. It also has no thunder and storm effects. None of the light shows you typically see in general purpose aquarium lights. I have never used these features on my Current USA and Fluval Aquasky. I probably won't miss these features. The quality of the gooseneck attachment seems to be good. He keeps his shape. Although, as with any metal, if you keep bending it, yes, the holding power weakens. But really, how often are you going to adjust the light. Find the right position, install it, and then leave it alone. The dimmer is built into a power cord. Assembly is easy. The angle of the light beam can be adjusted by changing the lens. Two lenses included. The default is 90 degrees. You can remove this and set it to 120 degrees for more coverage. Greater angle = less intensity. I decided to leave the lens at 90 degrees. The cover is sufficient for a ten liter aquarium. 20 gallons tall could benefit from a wide angle lens. 20 gallons long or 29 tall would require two of these lominies to grow fastidious plants. I adjusted the gooseneck so that the light hits the water surface at a slight angle. That extends the range. The light intensity is more than sufficient for floating plants. Although the angle means the intensity will be weaker underwater. Which is great for my use case. I don't want algae at the bottom of the aquarium. This light runs on ten gallons or less. 20 gallons and above require a second unit. It takes three for 55 gallons. The light quality is quite good. It's on the cooler side of the spectrum, though. Some prefer warmer colors. Cool or warm, plants will grow as long as there is enough. Why four instead of five stars? The mounting clip could have been better. I have a tank with a plastic rim around it. In other words, 10-gallon all-jar. The clip works, but not as easily as it should. I had to redo a lot of things to find a suitable bracket. Finally, before tightening the set screw, I smeared some cork material onto the outside of the jar. Otherwise the retaining screw will slide on the glass. It will hold, but the light can move from side to side. I don't want the beam angle to change. So I put a piece of cork material on top of the glass and it holds up well. It looks like the mounting system was designed for a rimless tank. Either way, this is a great flashlight. There are no frills here. The money was spent on lights and goosenecks. The body of the lantern is made of metal. Metal gooseneck. Light is sufficient for most plants. The light is designed for cubic desktop tanks. There is enough light that you can even use C02. Highly recommended.
