Another level of protection

These bags are an interesting product. I mean, can you really tell if they're fireproof if you can't subject them to fire? Well, I decided to "put my money where the manufacturer's mouth was" and replicate their video demonstration. I put several $100 bills in the smaller bag and then turned my cooking blowtorch on it with the cash inside (as shown in the accompanying video). Thankfully for me, the bag performed exactly as they said it would. It is, indeed, fireproof. There was no damage to the exterior of the bag from the flame and the money inside the bag was very, very hot - but it didn't burn. Stupidly, I almost burned my hand when I tried to test the surface to see how hot it got after being subjected to the torch. It didn't burn, but it got extremely hot. (Stupid move on my part to try and touch it right after. Duh. I may win a Darwin award this year.)I view these bags as an extra level of protection for use inside our fire-rated safe. Their claim of being waterproof seems credible (I wouldn't submerge them, but I do think they're extremely water-resistant at the very least).I use the smaller one for passports, smaller documents and credit cards, and any emergency cash we may be keeping in the safe. The larger bag can hold a good number of full-sized documents. In light of the cost of these TWO bags for $21 (at the time of this writing), I think they're an outstanding value and I feel much better protected by using them as an extra level of protection within our larger fire-rated safe. Highly recommended.
