Both the product description and the manual state that this vise is designed for a 2-1/4" Workbench without upholstery fits. That is not right. I did a test fit and found it wouldn't sit flush with my 2-1/4" countertop so I tried a 1/4" spacer and it looked fine. I installed it with this washer and it STILL proud of about 1/32" of the hole. I have to file the vise when I crank it. The quick release also jumps intermittently. Mind you I installed this vise a few minutes ago This makes it impossible to open/close the vise until the mechanism clicks in. In my limited experience, it turns out that if you tighten the vise "too tight", the eccentric will slip and prevent you from reliably tightening work because the jaws aren't parallel. You can fix this by adding pads and making them parallel, but you don't have to. Everything is covered in grease (for rust protection) that's full of metal and chipped paint. k Because I am so frustrated but i think thats why the quick release buckle doesnt fit properly, either it was in use when i got it or the packaging is awful, the box fell completely tt apart, there was a hole in one corner so big I could see through her hand. The screw protruded from the back, and the box was made of tape rather than cardboard. The box contained only a vise in a plastic bag, instructions and a thin piece of corrugated cardboard. The vise weighs 25 pounds, give or take. He needs more than just an empty delivery box! If I hadn't spent the last 2 hours installing this myself and bought all the hardware for the installation and drilled holes all over the workbench I would have returned. if i had a box to return it.
