This toe splint is stiff and holds the toe well. Others I've tried aren't as stiff and don't hold the toe. I have tried different things to fix a hammer toe which is very painful. I find it consistently helpful. It takes a long time to relearn the hammer finger, so be patient and wear it every day. My orthopedist told me to wear this but with the caveat that in her long practice only 1 patient had overtrained her toe and it would have taken a long time (about a year). If your finger is no longer flexible but hardened, this may not work for you. If you try, buy a few, toss them in the washing machine like socks, and replace them when they no longer hold your toe down. I went through about a dozen in 6 months, they aren't cheap but it worked for me. It's been 6 months but I'm not in much pain. I used to feel like stepping on a painful rock with every step, but now I don't have that anymore. It still bothers me, but not as I think about it every step of the way. I no longer limp. I put it on first thing in the morning. When the finger swells, I move it down the finger to the nail. If it starts to hurt, I move it back to the base of the toes. I had many improvements.
