We live in an old house where all of our lights are integrated into our electrical system and all of our fans are ceiling mounted. After we bought it, I realized that we don't really need this plug in the traditional sense - no traditional fans, no lights, no hidden outlets. I've also found that all of our devices that this can be handy for (kettles, Dyson fans, etc.) require more than just turning on and off to work. We chose to use this for the power bank which houses all of our electronics and chargers. Basically we use it to save power and eliminate phantom power in our house. While not strictly necessary, it has made it easy to turn off the power strip at any point of the day and we don't have to think about doing it before leaving the house. Small steps to save the environment.
