Review on πŸ“± Efficient Wireless Barcode Scanner: Zebra/Motorola Symbol DS6878-SR 2D with Bluetooth, Cradle, and USB Cord by Jason Hill

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great and powerful device

I was looking for the right 2D wireless barcode/QR code scanner to inventory tons of computing devices at work, especially Chromebooks. After reviewing all the options, I settled on the Zebra/Motorola Symbol DS6878-SR. This works great and connects perfectly with all my Bluetooth devices (from Android tablet, Chromebook and Windows laptop). There are some configuration options you can enable (e.g. enabling the default caps lock if you can get the serial number from a barcode), but you'll need to download a manual to find those specific settings. The quick start guide that came with the product is a good place to start, but if you want to dig deeper into the setup, be sure to refer to the manual for that specific product. Based on my personal experience of using it over several months, it has definitely saved me a ton of money. Time to scan Chromebook barcodes for over 800 Chromebooks per day. In IT it is important to keep your inventory up to date and this scanner will help you with that. Additionally, the placement of the strap in the battery compartment makes it easier to hold the scanner when receiving inventory with different barcodes. Although I haven't used it for QR codes, I liked the fact that it can support QR codes and made sure it worked with the QR code I created. An old downside with this is that it didn't come with a power adapter (just a USB cable to the PC). You have to pay extra for that, which should be included in the price you pay. All in all, this is a great scanning device for anyone who wants to keep an inventory of all their electronic devices (whether at work or at home). . It can be expensive but it does the job.

Pros
  • Ideal for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Doubtful purchase for seniors

Shipment did NOT include cradle or USB cord. Had to return. Frustrating.
