This is a hard plastic. I wish it looked like silicone or something. My husband struggled to understand this and had to snap something in half and use a broomstick to do it. It didn't fit, but he did. It covers the hot part, but I think there should be a red light in that rectangle. but it works like it no longer accidentally burns the fish.
