Good idea, badly implemented. but at least the support is great.

Revain won't let me review the Arlo video intercom as I bought it from another seller so I'm reviewing this accessory instead. To be honest, Arlo Chime was the most frustrating part of the whole setup, so I guess that fits. Overall, I would recommend the Arlo security cameras, but not the Arlo Video Doorbell or Chime, as they don't work well as part of an overall system, the software is buggy, and the audio available is terrible. I have to say that Arlo's support was great and really tried to help. We ended up returning the Arlo Video Doorbell and Chime and keeping the Ultra 2 camera set we bought. We were hoping for an integrated camera system, but the Arlo Video Doorbell and Chime didn't work so well together that we went back to Ring. Some of the issues we've encountered include: 1. Arlo Chime cannot connect directly to Arlo's video doorbell; The doorbell is only designed to work with your existing mechanical or electronic doorbell which is built into most homes. This is very counterintuitive as Arlo Chime /does!/ works directly with the Arlo doorbell without video. Why they haven't implemented it is a mystery. This is even more confusing as the phone app assumes this is a supported option. I assure you NO. The Arlo executive responsible for this decision should be publicly flogged.2. If that's not enough, while you can pair the Arlo Video Doorbell and Bell with an Arlo base station (required if you have additional camcorders like we did) and have them work together, the process that does this will poorly explained, and the (otherwise very good) process for installing and installing the app doesn't explain it at all. I installed Ultra 2 cameras and a base station in front of a video intercom. When installing the doorbell, instead of detecting the base station and automatically connecting to it, I was prompted to connect to our Wi-Fi network. Although the base station and the video door entry system were on the same network, they do not "see" each other. It took a call to tech support to find out that I had to disconnect the doorbell from my wifi and reconnect it directly to the base station. All of these products should work together seamlessly, but they don't.3. As mentioned above, Arlo Chime can connect to a base station, but not directly to a video intercom. This is normal if they are on the same base station; You can then set the Chime to play a sound when the video doorbell detects motion using what Arlo calls "modes". It wasn't intuitive, but it worked at least partially as described. Unfortunately, the audio options offered, crappy to say the least. They only offer ringtones or variations of them (modern, traditional, etc. but they all sound like a doorbell). One of the things our old doorbell and ring did was play a nice wind chime when motion was detected. It was a nice way of knowing someone was approaching the door even if they didn't press the doorbell (resulting in a different, normal ringtone). To top it off, even though the app included a volume control for Chime, it didn't work. It always played the same annoying, bad sound at maximum volume. Makes really angry. Don't program the damn volume knob in your app if you can't get it to work, Arlo.4 engineers. Last but not least, the terrible video calling feature. You can /probably/ disable this by going into "silent" mode. However, we could never get it to work. I understand some people like this feature, but we don't want the doorbell to ring our phone every time. Curse. Time. someone pushes a button. Again, the software allowed you to turn it off (while still making a sound when motion is detected). However, it just didn't work. Again, we're keeping the Ultra cameras, but brought back the Arlo Chime and Video Doorbell to buy another ring. I'm really disappointed that these products don't work together as one might expect. However, I would like to contact Arlo Technical Support. They were helpful, patient and really tried to solve our problems. But in the end, too many things didn't work right. Perhaps Arlo improves with version 2. as one would expect. However, I would like to contact Arlo Technical Support. They were helpful, patient and really tried to solve our problems.
