A few months ago I bought an Orei 901 converter, but I connected the wrong power cord and burned the unit. I liked it but it was pretty cheap and wouldn't last forever anyway. So I did some more research and really wanted to try this Startech VID2HDCON2 but probably like you I couldn't find any reviews. So I bit the bullet and bought it for $86 and a cheaper alternative, the Ruipuo Svideo to HDMI Converter for $23. I did some basic testing on the N64, see attached photos. I don't have any fancy capture cards to get clearer images, but you can get the idea. During testing there was a noticeable difference in quality between the two and the Ruipuo device gets quite warm when connected to the network and feels very cheap despite doing an excellent job. But Startech seems very solid, has an on/off switch and delivers the right colors along with the best quality. When comparing Ruipuo and S-Video composite, it is noticeable that the colors are oversaturated. You can fix this with your TV, but that's not the point. Most cheap converters seem to suffer from this problem. Overall, I can't say it's "worth" $86, but I can say that for what I've researched for less than $100, it will be the best you can buy without spending at least $300 on a really fancy one.
