I bought two of these motion sensors in early January. Both are outdoors, but protected from the weather. There's one on my porch, under the eaves opposite the door. The other is in my mailbox outside. The mailbox is made entirely of metal; the motion sensor is attached to the back of the box and held to the device by a magnet; very easy assembly, simply snap on without bracket. When the mailbox is opened, the sensor detects movement and sends a notification to my Smartthings Hub, which forwards it to the Alexa Revain mechanism to notify me that the mailbox is being accessed (both Alexa voice and Alexa). also via smartphone message); Mail has been delivered. The porch sensor is about 15 feet from the Smartthings ZigBee repeater, which is located in the garage. The mailbox sensor is located about 50 feet from the same repeater. Both motion detectors have been working almost perfectly since I installed them seven months ago. One day I thought I had a problem with the mailbox sensor because I kept getting notifications. It turned out that the postman hadn't closed the mailbox door, and every passing car set off an alarm. It only happened once in seven months. I had my doubts when I installed these indoor units outside (and in a metal mailbox). I didn't know how they would perform in extreme weather conditions. During the winter, the temperature was well below freezing for several nights. And now in the summer, the temperature in my mailbox often rises well above 120 degrees for hours. I know this because motion sensors also have built-in temperature sensors, and smartthings will report every change by one degree by logging it. The diary is filled with entries every day. In addition, the battery life is impressive. Batteries in both sensors remained at 83% after seven months of extreme weather. These motion sensors exceeded my expectations! I am very impressed.
